Day 1

Melbourne to Great Ocean Road

Depart:    Melbourne

O/night:    Port Campbell

Distance:    279 kilometres

Route summary: Drive out of Melbourne over the West Gate Bridge towards the open plains of Werribee. Have coffee in Geelong beside Corio Bay, lunch overlooking the beach in Lorne or Apollo Bay before watching the sunset over the Twelve Apostles, just out of Port Campbell.

Highlights: Werribee Open Range Zoo, Echidna Walkabout, Geelong Gallery, Little Creatures Brewery, Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre, Australian National Surfing Museum, Cape Otway Lightstation, Otway Fly Treetop Adventures and Twelve Apostles.

Day 2

Great Ocean Road to Grampians

Depart:    Port Campbell

O/night:    Halls Gap/Dunkeld

Distance:     Approx 260 kilometres

Route summary: Follow the Great Ocean Road out of Port Campbell past the enchanting Bay of Islands to Warrnambool and Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village. Stop for a break in picturesque Port Fairy then head through true Western District farming country to delightful Dunkeld and Halls Gap.

Highlights: Bay of Islands, Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, Tower Hill, Moyne River, Hamilton Gallery, Brambuk – National Park and Cultural Centre, MacKenzie Falls, bushwalking, wildlife and Aboriginal rock art.

Day 3

Grampians to Melbourne

Depart:    Halls Gap/Dunkeld

O/night:    Melbourne

Distance:    Approx 250 kilometres

Route summary: From Halls Gap or Dunkeld head to Stawell and Ararat towards the rich history of Ballarat and its Goldfields. Soak up the history of the gold rush, view the original Eureka Flag or pan for gold at Sovereign Hill before heading back to Melbourne.

Highlights: Winery cellar doors, Ballarat Wildlife Park, Sovereign Hill, Art Gallery of Ballarat, Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka and Creswick Woollen Mills.
