The Regions along the way
The Great Southern Touring Route can be divided roughly into three separate regions,
each offering diverse experiences but as a whole, offering the very best of what Australia
offers. Various connections in themselves can offer excellent holiday opportunities.
Adelaide via the coast
Travel to South Australia’s capital city via
the Great Southern Touring Route. From
Melbourne, travel along the Great Ocean
Road, through the Great Otway National
Park, past the Twelve Apostles via
Portland and on to the South Australian
coastal ports of Beachport and Robe,
the Coorong National Park and Victor
Harbor to Adelaide, with a side trip to
Kangaroo Island completing the coastal
experience.
Adelaide via inland
From Melbourne, the journey to Adelaide
includes the Goldfields, the Spa Country
and the Grampians, on to Penola and the
Coonawarra wine region, and then through
the Murraylands and Adelaide Hills.
Some of the towns along the way include
Ballarat, Daylesford, Halls Gap, Dunkeld,
Penola, Coonawarra wine region,
Naracoorte, Murray Bridge, Mannum,
Oakbank and Hahndorf.
