Highlights of the Touring Route
The best of Australia is showcased on the Great Southern Touring Route.
Better still it promises unique experiences for travellers wanting to discover
"the real Australia". National icons abound and popular attractions are plentiful.
Regarded by travel experts as one of the top journeys of a lifetime. The road clings to the
rugged coastline for much of its journey, as well as climbing through the beautiful Great
Otway National Park. It also features historic villages, seaside resorts, beaches, rich
farmlands, the famous Twelve Apostles and plenty of lookouts to stop and wonder.
As well as being one of the world’s most famous coastal drives, the Great Ocean Road
is also the world’s biggest war memorial. It was built mostly by pick and shovel, by
3,000 returned soldiers and sailors in honour of their comrades who died in the First
World War. A new memorial sculpture, next to the historic timber arch at Eastern View,
near Lorne, celebrates the road’s origins.
