The Regions along the way
The Great Southern Touring Route can be divided roughly into three separate regions,
each offering diverse experiences but as a whole, offering the very best of what Australia
offers. Various connections in themselves can offer excellent holiday opportunities.
Geelong & the Bellarine
Geelong is Victoria’s second largest city.
Close to Melbourne, the city’s unique
north facing waterfront is very popular
with historic swimming baths, an antique
carousel, restaurants and cafés. The city
offers shopping and entertainments. A
pleasant detour is made to the seaside
villages of the Bellarine. Offering sandy bay
and ocean beaches; plenty of shopping,
restaurants and wineries; family attractions;
golf courses; lighthouses and the lovely
historic buildings of Queenscliff.
The start of the Great Ocean Road
Nearby is Torquay, Australia’s surf capital,
home of Rip Curl and Quiksilver, and the
start of the Great Ocean Road. The famous
Bells Beach is located between Torquay
and Anglesea. At Anglesea, focus is on
sandy beaches and kangaroos on the golf
course. Lorne’s bustling street overlooks a
glistening bay, popular for swimming and
surfing. The road winds along, providing
breathtaking vistasto Apollo Bay. The Great
Otway National Park featuring sensational
waterfalls, and isolated beaches.
